Privacy Policy — Rewrite with AI

Last updated: June 29, 2026

Rewrite with AI ("the extension") is a browser extension that rewrites or generates text you select or type on a web page. This policy explains what data it handles and where that data goes.

Summary

What the extension handles

1. Settings and API key
Your chosen mode and settings, and (in API key mode) your OpenAI API key, are stored locally using the browser's chrome.storage API. They never leave your browser except as described below. Your API key is transmitted only to OpenAI (api.openai.com) to authenticate your own requests.

2. The text you rewrite
When you invoke a rewrite, summarize, extend, or autocomplete action, the selected or typed text (and, for whole-page actions, the page's visible text) is sent to the AI provider so it can produce a result:

Text is sent only at the moment you trigger an action. The extension does not log, store, or transmit your text anywhere else.

Third parties

The only third party that receives your data is OpenAI (via its API or via chatgpt.com), because contacting OpenAI/ChatGPT is the core purpose of the extension. Your use of OpenAI's services is governed by OpenAI's own privacy policy and terms:

The extension does not sell or transfer your data to any other third party, does not use it for advertising, and does not use it to determine creditworthiness or for lending.

Data retention and deletion

The extension keeps no data on any server. To delete everything it stores, remove the extension or clear its data from your browser's extensions settings.
